It's Morning, Jesus

This is the day you got up out of the grave
This is the day God defeated death
This is the day when Satan understood he could not hold you
This is the day the disciples ran to the tomb
This is the day the angel said: Do not be Afraid.
This is the day we were told: He is Risen.

So of all days, Lord
This is the day I will get up and get going
This is the day I will celebrate life
This is the day I will claim my inheritance
This is the day I will run in victory
This is the day I will laugh at all fear
This is the day I will look toward heaven
and salute you, bow to you, shout to you, sing to you...
You who sit at the right hand of God the Father!

The Horse Named Rush

It’s Still Morning, Jesus

I hurried my prayer, Lord
And I am not happy with what I have done.
I left you with my head still bowed
I started up the mountain, trying to drag my donkey behind me

I said to myself…I said:
“The sun is rising. I must outrun it.”
“This has to be done…now”

So, Lord, I quit too soon the very place
Where all successes are won
Where all accomplishments are readied

Steady my soul, three personed God
Slow me down
I almost got on the carousel
To ride again the horse named rush

Now, I am back with you
And laugh at the carousel going round
And the hurrying, scurrying, worrying thing
That possesses me
When I do not have you
And you are not allowed to have me.

So…I have come back
And I will sit, I will be, I will just hang out wordlessly awhile
At your feet….

Amen

Reluctant Baptism

But, I'm a Methodist!

You said the water was warm.

But I don't have to smile.

Did you have to?

Do what?

In theory...beautiful.

Face Lift

"The Cloud of Witnesses "in Beeson Chapel at Samford University

It's Morning, Jesus
I run the race this morning
And you are looking down on me
With a great host above me.
I'm tired and I'm weary, sometimes.
But I look up
And I keep running.
Amen

Left Handed Prayer

It's Morning, Jesus

I write upon my left hand the name Mary
I write upon my right hand the name Martha
And because I am right handed,
I will use my left hand today
As often as I can
To remind me to slow down and be patient.
Amen
