Love's Fatigue
Donovan
It's Afternoon, Jesus
When that woman pressed toward you in that crowd
And needed your attention
When her hungry eyes locked on to you
And her resolve moved her to crawl toward you
There was such a need in her
Such an emptiness
Such a vacuity of health
That she sucked the life out of you
She took your power
And into her was suddenly emptied
All of your compassion
So much that you felt drained by her
In that moment you said:
"I felt power go out of me."
I thank you for the school teachers at Unity,
Who today take your place in that crowd
Filled with little humans empty, needy, hungry.
Bless the teachers Lord.
Fill them mightily.
And Lord, let them know it's alright to be tired
Let them know it's ok to be drained
Let them know that you know
What they are experiencing
And let them know that love itself
Flows outward and yields life and health to us all.
Amen
